Our client is a niche supplier of products and services in North America for over 50 years offers a wide range of metal alloys, fabrication and services to customers within the electrical, automotive, recreation, telecommunication, medical, building product and specialized equipment markets across the continent. 

Working out of 3 locations (2 in the greater Toronto area, and 1 near Montreal), the Bilingual Environment, Health and Safety Manager coordinates the Plant safety, training and environment responsibilities to ensure compliance with OHSA/CSST and other provincial and federal regulatory agencies. 

Our client is seeking a mature professional who has the experience and leadership to review and update our client’s existing EHS policies, and the presentation skills to communicate and implement them to the different manufacturing locations.  

As the incumbent will be producing and distributing the EHS documentation, strong written skills are as important as oral presentation skills in both English and French. Overnight stays at the Quebec location are required at a minimum of one week per month. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assisting Plant Managers and Service Managers in preparing the Annual Safety Program, environment and training activities for all facilities in order to meet the needs of the or­ganization, employees and the requirements of the law.
  • Assisting plant management in developing and promoting Safety Awareness Programs and Environment Programs that would encourage active participation of all employees in Safety activities.
  • Performing safety audits to establish measurable respon­sibility for health and safety.
  • Working closely with the local management, medical staff, human resources personnel in the development and implementation of Health & Safety policies (i.e.: work refusal, lock out procedures, due diligence, etc.)
  • Meet regularly with the Workers' Compensation Board/ CSST and its representatives to review and discuss accidents, claims, second injury assistance, modified work duties and rehab programs.
  • Represent the Company to WCB/CSST Decision Branch hearings and the Appeals Tribunal hearings.

Essential Education/skills/qualifications: 

  • Fully bilingual in English and French

  • Bachelors Degree or College diploma in Safety/Environment or related field

  • 5+ years health and safety experience at Plant site including hands on training
  • Good computer skills including MS Office

  • Working knowledge of WSIB, OHSA, CSST,  LTA regulations

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)

Desired Education/skills/qualifications: 

  • 7+ yrs mfg safety/training experience
  • 2-3 years experience with Environmental legislation

  • Works well in a team environment

  • Sound judgment with good problem solving skills

  • Self motivated with high energy level

  • Good planning, time management and organizing skills

  • Ability to get along with diverse personalities

  • Tactful, mature, flexible, and savvy

  • Accuracy and Attention to detail
